Tips For Keeping Your Carpets In Good Condition Tips For Keeping Your Carpets In Good Condition 04 July 2014

Keeping your carpets clean isn’t always easy, but clean carpets can make a huge difference to the way your home looks. Unclean carpets don’t just age your home and make it look dirty, but they can also affect the longevity of your floors, and can even cause bad or unpleasant odours in your home. If you want to keep your carpets in good condition then here are some great tips that can help you!1)    Brushing away dirt and grime.Invest in a brush that you can use to clean your carpets. Brushing your carpets with a broom before you vacuum is a great method to lift dirt, remove hair and get rid of deep-set grime. Try doing this before vacuuming and you’ll notice a huge different to your carpets! 2)    Getting rid of odours. There are lots of cleaning products that you can use to keep unwanted odours out of your carpets. If this is a problem that you often face then why not try using a deodorising or odour-neutralising powder on your carpets? Simply sprinkle the powder down, leave to sit and then vacuum away. The powder will lift unpleasant odours so that you won’t need to worry about nasty smells in your home! 3)    Chemical stain removal products. There are lots of different ways in which you can remove stains from your carpets. Lots of people choose to use chemical products to get rid of unsightly stains, and although this is a very effective method, you might find that this can cause damage to your carpets. Only use chemical stain removal products as a last resort, and make sure you test them on an inconspicuous area beforehand. Lots of chemical stain removers use bleach, so be wary when using them on your floors. 4)    Removing stains in other ways. There are lots of ways in which you can remove stains without using potentially harmful chemical products. The first thing to do is act quickly – when a spill happens make sure you have a sponge, a bowl of warm water and a carpet-friendly cleaning agent on hand. You can also use lemon juice as a eco-friendly alternative! Gently blot at the stain with the damp and warm sponge before applying the cleaning agent. Only ever use dabbing or blotting motions as anything else can rub the stain and make it worse! Once the cleaning agent has been applied, continue to blot and dab at it with clean warm water until the product has gone. This might need a few attempts for stubborn stains, but you’ll definitely notice a difference! 5)    Using a carpet cleaner.A carpet cleaner or steam cleaner is one of the best ways to keep your carpets looking their best. A carpet cleaner can get deep down into the fibres of your carpets where other products or apparatus might not reach. If you want thoroughly clean and sanitary carpets then a carpet cleaner is definitely a great option for you! If one is out of your budget then why not consider renting one instead? You can rent carpet and steam cleaners from your local cleaners, and even some supermarkets now offer rentable cleaning equipment. Try to hire one from a reputable source as you can then be sure that the cleaner itself is sanitary, and that you won’t be spreading more bacteria around your home!
